They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But which foods should you add to your breakfast menu to start burning more fat and lose weight? If you read the 3 Worst Breakfast Foods article, you already know which foods to avoid, according to nutrition and fitness expert John Rowely.
So, what foods should be finding their way to you plate in the mornings?
According to Rowely, the following are three of the best foods to eat in the morning if you want to start burning more fat consistently:
1: Whole Eggs
Eggs contain lean protein, friendly fats, B vitamins like choline for your heart and brain. They also provide naturally occurring antioxidants that benefit your eyes.
This study even shows that, compared to those who eat bagels, people who eat two eggs for breakfast lose up to 65 percent more weight. They also have higher energy levels than those who eat bagels.
Rowely recommends 2-3 whole eggs, over-easy cooked in real olive oil or – better yet – with fat burning breakfast food number 2…
2: Coconut Oil
One study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, had researchers investigate all the former studies relative to medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) that are abundant in coconut fat.
All these studies showed that diets rich in fats, like those found in coconut oil, provided a host of benefits including:
- Boosting the metabolism
- An increase in energy
- A decrease in food consumption
- Reduced body weight and lower body fat mass
TIP: add one tablespoon of coconut oil to your coffee for at least 5 or 6 days per week.
One food that is getting a lot of attention in the nutrition world these days is kefir. The main reason for this is because the high amounts of probiotics in kefir makes it a MUCH healthier version of yogurt.
A six ounce serving of milk kefir contains 6 grams of protein, as well as a healthy dose of calcium, B12, B2 (Riboflavin), phosphorus, magnesium, and even some vitamin D (which enhances the absorption of calcium, iron and magnesium).
Besides containing a ton of protein and great nutrients, Kefir has also been shown to improve digestion, aid in weight management and mental health. According to Rowely this makes it one of the healthiest foods you can eat for breakfast…even though it’s technically a liquid.
TIP: start using kefir in your protein shakes instead of milk.
You’ve probably noticed that John Rowely doesn’t recommend any higher carb foods for breakfast. The reason for this is that, in most cases, they can make you tired and “turn on” your fat storing hormones.
Many people beleive they should eat a high carb breakfast to fuel them for the day. As covered in this article, high-sugar breakfast foods may not only drain your energy… they may even cause you to overeat during the rest of the day.
In fact, Rowely states that it’s not just your food choices that may be preventing you from losing weight… it’s WHEN you’re eating certain foods that can make all the difference… as he explains in this video.
